Enter Your Personal Data and Profile |
After entering your Username
and Password, you're taken to my brainhunter. The first time you log in, you'll be notified that your personal information needs updating. Click on Add Personal Data/Profile to proceed. Updating your personal data and profile is a 3-step process. Step 1: You're asked for personal information and to define the type of job you're looking for. Fill in as much information as you can to ensure the best possible fit. Items marked with an asterisk (*) are required. One important item available near the bottom of the page allows you to block companies from viewing your profile. By default, employers CAN see your resume and cover letter. They CANNOT see your name and contact info until you give authorization. If you BLOCK COMPANIES, these employers will NEVER see ANY information, including your resume, until you give approval. You WILL be considered for automatches and be contacted by us when you match a job, even if you block ALL companies. You can rest assured that Brainhunter.com will NEVER represent you to ANY company or release ANY personal contact information without your specific permission. Click Save and Continue to proceed. Step 2: Here's where you add your first profile. Answer the questions and paste (or type) your resume where indicated. You may choose to use plain text or HTML. Remember to EXCLUDE any contact or address information. We don't provide this to prospective employers until YOU authorize us to. Click Save and Continue to proceed. Step 3: Our automated system scans through your resume and picks out your "core skills" for your Job Stream. For each skill listed, indicate how many years you've been using it. You may also indicate "Academic Only". You are also provided with a Job Positions section where you should specify what titles you've had and for how long. Click Save and Continue to proceed. You should only enter skills and positions that you want to work with in your next job. If you have 10 years of COBOL, but never want to use it again, then just leave it out of the core skills and you won't be matched to COBOL jobs. Rules for Job Seekers: Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with
our general policies. They're designed to provide-for and protect all our job
seekers and employers alike, and ensure that you are matched quickly and effectively to jobs. |
Add A Cover Letter (optional) |
Click on the Job
Seekers tab and select my brainunter. In the Personal
Data and Profile section, click on Submit Cover Letter. Where indicated, enter a name for your new cover letter. This name is used for your identification purposes only and will not be shown to prospective employers. Select a profile (at this point you probably only have one profile) with which you'd like this cover letter to be linked. The cover letter will ALWAYS appear with this profile. Finally, type or paste your cover letter into the
space provided. You may choose
to use plain text or HTML. Remember to EXCLUDE any contact or address
information. We don't provide this to prospective employers until YOU authorize us
to. Click Save Cover Letter to finish. |
Check Your Email! |
Brainhunter.com's
best feature is its automatic job-matching engine which continually looks for good matches
to your profile. These results are emailed to you immediately. Your quick
response will ensure you have the best opportunity to be considered! |
Apply for Positions of Interest |
Once you've been
matched to a job, or a recruiter has searched and found your resume, you'll be contacted
by email, and asked to REVIEW the position on-line. At this
point, we have NOT submitted your approval to the client, and they DO NOT have your name
or contact information - we need to know if you are interested first before releasing this
info. Once you have reviewed each matched position from the "matched jobs" screen, and have "applied" for it, the employer is alerted that you are an interested, available, qualified candidate. They can then set up interviews, testing, forward it to internal managers, etc. If you are NOT intereseted in a position, you need
to specify a "decline" reason. This confidential feedback helps the
employer improve their job offerings. |
Searching for Jobs |
The best way to find
jobs is to be matched for jobs that meet your needs by waiting for Brainhunter to send you
"matches". You may want to search and apply for jobs yourself however, and
we give you the ability to do so. Click on the Job Seekers tab and select my brainhunter. In the Jobs Management section, click on Search for Jobs. Type a few keywords, separating terms using and, or. Fill in as much information as possible about the job for you're looking for (location, rate ranges, job stream etc.) and click the Search Jobs button to begin your search! You'll be presented with the list of matching jobs. If you get a "no matches" message, try some different keywords etc. and search again. You've searched for a job and found one or more for which you'd like to apply. The Select column contains checkboxes which allow you to select one or more jobs. The Show Only Selected and Apply to Selected buttons work with these selections. Click Apply to Selected with one or more jobs selected to proceed to the next step. You'll be taken to a page where you can select a profile and cover letter that best match the positions for which you're applying. You can also add a brief note for the recruiter. Click Apply to finish. Your application will be sent to the employer. The employer WILL be able to see your name, resume and cover letter, as well as your skill set. It is assumed that you are interested and available for these jobs. You can also Save your search from the search result screen, so that you can come back later and re-use that same search, and add any new jobs that have been posted since you last ran the search. Simply enter a descriptive name in the text entry box on the top button bar, and press "Save Search". You'll notice that the button is replaced by a "Re-Search" button - press this to add any new jobs the next time you re-use this search from the desktop. |
Job Search Tips |
Because the
Brainhunter.com database contains thousands of jobs, you'll want your search results to be
as concise as possible. Multiple criteria searches are the best way to narrow your search. The more search options you select, the more relevant your search results will be. For those search options that are presented in a list box, holding down the Ctrl key will allow you to select multiple entries. Two examples of effective job searching: #1: You're a Marketing Communications generalist who's looking to find a contract in Ottawa, ON that pays at least $35 per hour. You posses graphics/design skills and have done some technical writing and training. You were checked Brainhunter.com last week and just want to catch up on what you've missed in the last 7 days. Your search might look something like this: Keywords: marketing or communication or
writing or design or training #2: You're a Registered Nurse who specializes in emergent care and obstetrics; you're willing to relocate anywhere in North America. A permanent, full-time position paying $55,000 per year. Your search might look something like this: Keywords: nurse or nursing or emergent
or emergency or obstetric Use keywords relating to skills and interests rather than titles. Remember that one company's Multimedia Designer may be another's Website Producer or Graphic Communication Specialist. Get as complicated as you like with your search criteria:
Place part of your search into parenthesis per the rules of Boolean logic:
