Job Summary:
In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Under the direction of the Medical Director, or designate, and the supervision of the Administrative Manager, Pediatric Specialty Medicine, or designate, the position provides clerical support to the Renal Clinic by performing such duties as: scheduling clinic appointments; typing, transcribing, sorting and distributing related documents; inputting, sorting, retrieving data into/from database; obtaining patient information utilizing software applications according to established policies, standards, and procedures.
Duties/Accountabilities:
Maintains related database information such as patient statistics, research, and related projects by inputting, retrieving, sorting, and performing backup of database information.
Accesses and extracts monthly reports of statistical data and other requested data from the computer system as required.
Books, schedules, and confirms outpatient appointments. Adds, deletes, and changes appointments as required. Pre-registers patients and requests patient charts from Health Records.
Control data completion and integrity by searching out missing items.
Reception duties including receiving and directing patients, answering, screening and redirecting phone calls, taking messages for doctors and nurses, including calls from pharmacies for refill prescriptions and verification.
Creates, prints, and distributes appointment lists, appointment letters, and clinic schedules.
Transcribes and types a variety of materials such as correspondence, histories, consults, and physician reports.
Collects and submits billing information to billing manager.
Communicates with BC Transplant and Provincial Renal Agency Data Management staff as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
Grade 12 and two year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to keyboard at 45 wpm.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
Ability to organize work.
Ability to operate related equipment.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
