The Burnaby Hospital Redevelopment Project (BHRP) and Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project are multi-year, multi-phase projects with a focus on expanding clinical space and upgrading required infrastructure. Fraser Health’s capital program delivery is complex, involving additions and renovations with phased construction and completion.

 

Role

 Are you passionate about design, construction, quality and project management? If so, bring your skills to this key role supporting and collaborating for the BHRP (Phases 1 and 2) and RCHRP (Phases 2 and 3). Specifically, provide support to the project team in all project phases:, design development, construction site-wide operational coordination, and handover. The ARQTS embedded teams work on each major project with Design and Construction teams to ensure facilities are designed and built with long-term sustainment, operational needs and maintainability in mind, while enabling fit-for-purpose for clinical requirements.

 

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Project Manager to oversee this major capital program with a primary focus on asset management, risk assessment, and quality assurance. The Electrical Project Manager will focus on technical review for design and construction, coordination of work plans, including site construction and commissioning work, conduct field reviews and track deficiencies, and other key aspects related to ensuring project quality and effective project delivery. The role will also support the team in operational readiness, commissioning, and facility acceptance on behalf of Facilities Maintenance and Operations (FMO) as we move towards substantial completion.

 

This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, managing risks, and minimizing the impact of construction activities on the hospitals, their staff, and patients.

 

 What you’ll do

  1. Asset Management:
    • Oversee the lifecycle of mechanical assets, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
    • Develop and implement asset management strategies to maximize efficiency and reliability.
    • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of electrical systems.
  2. Risk Assessment:
    • Identify potential risks associated with mechanical projects and develop mitigation plans.
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
    • Monitor and report on risk management activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  3. Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all mechanical work meets quality standards and project specifications.
    • Implement quality control processes and conduct regular audits.
    • Address and resolve any quality issues that arise during the project.
  4. Technical Design Issues:
    • Review and approve mechanical design plans and specifications.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to the design team.
    • Ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and meet project requirements.
  5. Site Impact Management:
    • Assess the impact of Mechanical projects on the site and surrounding areas.
    • Develop strategies to minimize disruption and ensure site safety.
    • Coordinate with other project managers and stakeholders to address site-related issues.
  6. Submittal Review:
    • Review and approve submittals from contractors and suppliers.
    • Ensure submittals comply with project specifications and standards.
    • Provide feedback and request revisions as necessary.
  7. Operational Readiness and Commissioning:
    • Support the team in operational readiness, commissioning, and facility acceptance.
    • Conduct field reviews and track deficiencies to ensure project quality.
    • Coordinate with Facilities Maintenance and Operations (FMO) as the project moves towards substantial completion.

 

What you bring 

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

 

Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in architectural project management, with a focus on healthcare facilities.

 

Certifications: Professional licensure (e.g., Registered Architect) and PMP certification are highly desirable.

 

Skills:

o    Strong project management and organizational skills.

o    Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

o    Proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).

o    Knowledge of healthcare facility design, building codes, regulations, and industry standards.

o    Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Job Type: Casual full-time hours (37.5 hours per week)
Wage:
$42.00 - $50.00/hour - as a casual employee, total earnings include an additional 13% in lieu of benefits and paid vacation. The rate for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
