Job Description

Associate Director, Principal Gifts

Full-time, Permanent

What we do

At BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, we’re on a quest to ensure every kid in the province receives the best health care imaginable. As a fundraising organization, we inspire communities and people to support BC Children’s Hospital, along with its world-class research institute, mental health facility and rehabilitation center.

Our work makes a profound difference. From helping get the boldest research ideas off the ground to supporting the most advanced equipment, together we are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in children’s health care. This is no small task—which is why we’re looking for passionate people to join our team and help propel our work forward to power the possible.

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Director, Principal Gifts, the Associate Director will manage and grow a fundraising portfolio of donors and prospects that are capable of making financial commitments of $1,000,000 or greater. In this role, you will also mentor members of the major gifts and principal gifts (MGPG) team.

Working in close collaboration with the appropriate internal collaborative teams, senior leaders of BCCHF, clinicians and researchers, you will focus on creating exceptional donor experiences and engaging with the next generation of supporters to BCCH as well as renewal of current loyal supporters. As a seasoned and established fundraiser, you are an expert in senior-level volunteer management and feel at ease working with Board Members and ultra-high-net-worth individuals.

More specifically, you will:

  • Actively manage a portfolio of new and existing donors to develop and implement comprehensive individual strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding principal gift donors.
  • Thoroughly qualify new and lapsed prospective donors to ascertain interest and readiness in giving at a principal gift level.
  • Ensure that donors receive personalized correspondence, reports, and updates in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work in partnership with Foundation teams to coordinate strategies with assigned prospects, develop tailored proposals, and actively participate in the strategy development and occasionally the execution, of cultivation events.
  • Identify giving patterns of current donors and high-level prospects. Identify donors with potential for growth and increased involvement with BCCHF.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with physicians and hospital staff; involve the appropriate colleagues across the hospital to coordinate and execute strategies to engage donors.
  • Participate in corporate and other high-profile events around greater Vancouver to build relationships and foster connections with business leaders and high-net-worth individuals across the community.
  • With support from the Philanthropy Coordinator, Principal Gifts, ensure meticulous maintenance of our Raiser’s Edge NXT database recording accurate, strategic and timely information on prospects and donors. This includes producing briefing notes, documenting solicitation plans, and meeting reports to ensure that donor histories are part of the institution’s memory.
  • Create and manage volunteer networks that assist in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects.
  • Mentor members of the Major Gifts and Principal Gifts team, encouraging high-level performance and recognizing team success.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in philanthropy using this knowledge and research to continually enhance overall fundraising strategy.

You have a successful track record of personally securing gifts of $500,000 or more and have demonstrated your ability to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors with ease and professionalism.

In addition, you will have:
