Job Summary:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.       Under the general direction of the Program Manager, provides nursing care to patients in the Antepartum and Postpartum areas and ensures safe staffing levels are maintained by replacing vacancies on the unit at the direction of the Program Coordinator or Clinical Nurse Leader.  Provides maternal and fetal/newborn assessment, patient teaching, counselling, and liaising with support services that will promote maternal and fetal/newborn well being.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience
• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Two years of recent perinatal nursing experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Current CPR/Newborn Resuscitation Certification.
• Breastfeeding update, minimum 6 hours, in the last 2 years.
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to use maternal/fetal/newborn nursing theory and expertise.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
