Job Summary

 

Salary Range: $74,618-$107,264/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

 


Job Summary:

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient and employee safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The BC Cancer BioCancer Program seeks a team player to support the province-wide infrastructure initiative leveraging biospecimens to promote translational research in genomics and personalized medicine. The goal of this program is to enroll eligible cancer patients to collect, process, curate and store high-quality biospecimens to accelerate research. This individual will report to the laboratory manager from a lab operations perspective and to the BioCancer Program Manager from a project/program perspective. Will attend quarterly steering committee meetings along with any ongoing project and lab meetings to address any concerns. Assists with forecasting of research budget needs in regards to the laboratory.

 

Reporting to the Leader or designate and working within the context of a research culture and in accordance with established policies and procedures, vision and values of PHSA, the Research Projects Coordinator 2 works in collaboration with senior scientists and Principal Investigators (PI’s) to manage various projects and grants within a PHSA Research Centre or Entity.  The Research Projects Coordinator 2 assists in establishing budgets and milestones for various projects and grants and develops strategies to monitor the progress of projects to ensure project objectives and milestones are met. The Research Projects Coordinator 2 also reviews and evaluates project management methods and makes recommendations to improve efficiency. This position utilizes analytical thinking and strong project management skills to accurately evaluate the project as it relates to the Centre or Entity and multiple stakeholders and to coordinate effective implementation of solutions among departments. The Research Projects Coordinator 2 supervises students and orients staff to project management processes and procedures as required.

 

What you’ll do: 


• They will support the Clinical Trials lab manager and BioCancer Program Manager with the creation and maintenance of a quality management system that is in accordance with best lab and biobank practices.
• Participates in departmental training and orientation programs by demonstrating established laboratory procedures to new employees and students.
• They will assist lab manager as required to maintain all laboratory facility operations, equipment, scheduling, including general preventative maintenance, installations, general repairs and keep records of work performed.
• Implements BioCancer workflows and deploys and manages a Laboratory Management system ensuring data and sample integrity.
• Prepares, monitors and documents use of a variety of solutions, reagents, standards and controls for use in analysis.

 

 

Qualifications:

This individual will have comprehensive knowledge and recent related hands-on 2-3 year experience in a laboratory. Performs Laboratory procedures according to established policies and make sure they support compliance with WorkSafeBC along with DAP and ISBER best practices.

 

This individual should possess following soft skills: Good communication, conflict resolution, leadership, interpersonal skills, problem solving, Collaboration and Time and Priority Management.

 

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in Science or Business Administration plus a minimum of five (5) years of recent related experience in project management and/or a research development management role and/or certification as a Project Management Professional.

Broad knowledge of project design, methodologies, developing and managing project strategies, evaluation and monitoring, project management principles, and multiple project interaction and integration.  Demonstrated ability to manage multiple resource intense projects within a fast paced environment.  Demonstrated organizational, analytical and decision-making skills.  Excellent ability to organize work and communicate effectively.  Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.  Demonstrated computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).  Ability to work under pressure of deadlines.  Ability to accept responsibility and work independently.  Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the performance of duties.
