Job Summary:
In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. The Operating Room (OR) Patient Services/Booking Clerk in collaboration with the Operating Room Clinical Nurse Leader, performs a variety of clerical functions relating to the booking, assigning, and admission of surgical patients to the Operating Room. Responsibilities include scheduling the OR slate and performing data entry related to scheduling on a daily basis. Duties also include transcribing physicians’ orders as well as preparation and maintenance of patient charts. All duties are performed within established guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
• Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to keyboard at 40 wpm. • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. • Ability to deal with others effectively. • Ability to organize work. • Ability to operate related equipment. • Ability to utilize a variety of computer software applications. • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
